Meet the experts who make up our archaeological research team, specialising in the conservation and study of historical heritage.
Dr Abdelrhman Fahmy
Dr Abdelrhman Fahmy is an expert in archaeometry, geoarchaeology and archaeological conservation, with a PhD in Archaeological Conservation Sciences from the University of Cádiz, Spain.
His academic background includes studies at the University of Cairo, where he obtained his bachelor's and master's degrees in archaeological conservation. He has undertaken several research stays at prestigious institutions, such as the University of Gdansk (Poland), the University of Leicester (United Kingdom), and the Rathgen Laboratory in Berlin (Germany), among others.
Fahmy has led and participated in multiple international projects related to heritage conservation, such as the Karnak Stones Project (2024-2027) at the Karnak Temples, as well as research on the impact of climate change on stone monuments in the EU.
His publications focus on the evaluation of archaeological building materials and the conservation of heritage sites, having written several articles in renowned scientific journals such as the Journal of Cultural Heritage and Heritage Science. His skills include advanced knowledge in scientific analysis techniques applied to archaeology, such as spectroscopy, photogrammetry and the use of advanced technologies for the conservation of materials. He has also been a reviewer in scientific journals and has taught archaeological conservation courses at the University of Cairo.
Prof. Eduardo Molina Piernas
Lead researcher of the HUM1129 Research Group "Archaeometry and Archaeology: analysis of the territory and technologies applied to Heritage (ARCHEOS)", and member of the Geoarchaeology and Archaeometry Unit Applied to Historical-Artistic and Monumental Heritage (UGEA-PHAM), Technical Service Approved by the University of Cádiz, since 2020.

Degree in Geological Sciences in 2008 and Doctor of Earth Sciences in 2015, from the University of Granada. For almost 20 years, his work has focused on the study of the petrophysical characterisation of traditional construction materials (natural stone, mortars, pigments, etc.), as well as their conservation through the control of the deterioration factors that affect the historical heritage built in various monuments, many declared as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO, such as in Iran, Egypt and Spain. He has also focused on studies on archaeometry and geoarchaeology from archaeological sites of different eras; highlighting his scientific production since 2019 as part of the UGEA-PHAM. He is currently a Professor at the University of Cádiz and is the Lead Researcher of the HUM-1129 Research Group: "Archaeometry and Archaeology: analysis of the territory and technologies applied to Heritage (ARCHEOS)". He is Co-Director of the 'Karnak Stones Project', Luxor, Egypt.
Prof. Salvador Domínguez-Bella
University Professor at the University of Cádiz.
Department of Earth Sciences. Faculty of Science Puerto Real, Cádiz, Spain. Head of the Geoarchaeology and Archaeometry Unit Applied to Historical-Artistic and Monumental Heritage (UGEA-PHAM), Technical Service Approved by the University of Cádiz, since 2005. Member of the ARCHEOS Group (HUM-1129) of the Junta de Andalucía. Degree in Geological Sciences, 1981 and Doctorate in Geological Sciences 1986, from the Complutense University of Madrid, UCM.
He has developed his teaching activity since 1981 at the University of Cádiz, as well as teaching at other universities in France, Italy, Portugal, Mexico and Morocco, within the framework of Diploma Courses or ERASMUS+ Professors. Research work developed in three lines: experimental mineralogy, regional geology and archaeometry-geoarchaeology, with special interest in the geological, mineralogical and archaeometric analysis of mineral raw materials used in prehistory, especially in the south of the Iberian Peninsula and the Strait of Gibraltar and the Geoarchaeological study of archaeological sites and analysis of materials in general, rock art and gemological materials used since Prehistory. A large part of these works have been developed within the framework of the PAI-HUM-440 Group and currently the HUM-1129 ARCHEOS (Andalusian Research Plan) of which he is a researcher. He belongs to different national and international Scientific Societies and Commissions and Thematic Networks, such as Technoheritage, National Network of Lithotheques. Member of the National Commission of the IUCr. He has participated in archaeological and archaeometric works and studies in sites such as Benzú, Sierra de Atapuerca, Pompeii, Noeda, Carnac (France), Cueva de Ardales, etc. Member of the KSP Project team in Karnak.
Ana Durante Macías
Academic Background

Excavation Experience
She has participated in excavations in Pompeii (International Project of the UNIVERSITÀ CA' FOCARI DE VENICE and the UNIVERSITY OF CÁDIZ, entitled «The Garum of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Exploitation of Marine Resources in the Vesuvian Area») (Campaigns 2009, 2010, 2012). In the Excavation campaign in the Dolmen de las Rosas, Villamartín (Cádiz) (2012). In the Excavation Campaigns in the Baelo Claudia Archaeological Site. 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2021. In the 2018 Archaeological Soundings in the Solar del Colegio Valcárcel, Cádiz. In the Archaeology Laboratory at the University of Cádiz, academic year 2013-2014 and 2014-2015. Excavation campaign in the Roman Villa of Noheda (Cuenca) (2012). Member of the KSP Project team during the 2024 Campaign, in Karnak, Egypt.
Specialised Training
She has completed different specialisation courses in Archaeology such as the XII COURSE OF CLASSICAL ARCHAEOLOGY IN BAELO CLAUDIA, University of Cádiz. (2011-2012), the GEOLOGY AND GEOTOURISM SEMINAR ON THE SOUTHERN SHORE OF THE STRAIT OF GIBRALTAR, University Classroom of the Strait. Abdelmalek Essaadi University, Tetouan, Morocco (2007), the II SPECIALISATION AND ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXCAVATION PRACTICES COURSE IN THE ROMAN VILLA OF NOHEDA (2012) or the Archaeology Course "Summer School Arrábida Arqueológica" in Setúbal, Portugal (2013). She has participated in different Scientific Conferences and National and International Congresses between 2000 and the present. She is co-author of 6 scientific publications.
Fabiola Martínez
Graduate in Social Education from the National University of Distance Education (2013) and Promoter of effective equality between men and women (2016). She has participated in the 2023/2024 archaeological campaign of El Cañuelo, within the framework of the Mare in Rure project.
Mr. Osama Mohamed Mostafa
Archaeologist from the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities
He is an Egyptologist from the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities, with extensive experience in the archaeology of the Karnak area. He participated in the 2024 campaign as a Ministry supervisor in the Spanish Archaeological Mission of Karnak.
